Formed by piano/keyboards player Jerome Batson the Dark Blue Matter (dBm) first self-produced single Another World was recorded/released in Spring 2011 followed by a huge schedule of solo gigs and promotion.  After a regular 4 piece line-up was established they played gigs on the London club circuit, including iconic venues such as The Bull and Gate and The George Tavern. With live shows marked by improvised solos and fluent jamming they’ve won over audiences across the UK playing many regular gigs and a number of residencies.

Another single Good Times Humbled was recorded/released in 2014, and the band were awarded Artist of the Month on Cross Counties Radio (Leicestershire community radio station) where all 3 were singles played regularly on the station (a rough demo of Bad Afternoon also featured). Songs have also been played on many local and Internet radio stations.

Side-project The Ditch (Shoreditch Blues Band) was formed, a live gigging project playing blues and rock classics.

Summer 2015 saw the release of a solo 3-track EP Hand Me Down Blues, followed by further promotion of both old and new material across London and the South East, including a special  invitation to play at the independent Shuffle Film Festival in Mile End Park.

Further solo and band work (studio and live) is ongoing.

REVIEWS

The essence and creative twist of the traditional American Blues Rock sound is still alive and kicking - at its best here in the UK and that is why the London based band are winners of the Music Members Alliance award for their excellence and service to original unsigned listening music community… You guys rock…

Cross Counties Radio 2

Hand me Down Blues

Some people they like stormy weather

Some people they like the blues

No one likes that foggy feeling

Cos nobody likes to lose

Just hand me those hand me down ideas

Don’t give me none of that mess around turn

around run around here

All I want is those hand me down blues

And I’m happy too!

Some people they want the next big thing

Well that’s what they like to choose

Me I’m trying to turn back the tide

I may as well be shooting for the moon

So hand me those hand me down ideas

Don’t give me none of that mess around turn

around run around here

All I want is those hand me down blues

And I’m happy too!

Well I never wanted to be lonely

Never wanted to be cool

All I want to see is the sun shine

And in the summertime

Maybe see an Earth rise too

So hand me those hand me down ideas

Don’t give me none of that mess around turn

around run around here

All I want is those hand me down blues

And I’m happy too!

Island

No one said words go on forever

But to me it’s clear and it’s true

So tantalising, mind energising too

Cos no one’s an island

It’s what you do

No one’s an island

It’s up to you

No one’s an island

Across the void of space

Like that comet’s tail

Our metadata sails on through

Carried like contraband

Stolen from a promised land

Well no one’s an island

It’s what you do

No one’s an island

It’s up to you

No one’s an island

When I think of all the magic moments I’ve known

Misty mountains, soulful Sunday sermons

I feel my heart is jumping

Soul it orbits Saturn

Near and far’s forgotten

My near and far’s forgotten

Lets pretend we’ve got no fear of fashion

Lets assume that x and y is true

Lets get overcome with passion

And human attitude

Cos no one’s an island

It’s what you do

No one’s an island

It’s up to you

No one’s an island

Without you

It’s up to you., I’m thinking of you

I’m thinking of you

Two Minds

All roads lead to loneliness

You lose yourself to find yourself in such a mess

Thought we’d worked it out

But falling down we’re nowhere to be found

Cos life is full of sweet distress

Especially when your back’s against the wall

There’s just nothing like a crisis of confidence

Or knowledge blindness

To take me to the floor

Takes me to the floor

We’re all in two minds

Star in two lives

All in two minds

Star in two lives

All roads lead to loneliness

You lose yourself to find yourself some happiness

Thought we had it all

But then we find we ain’t got nothing at all

Cos life is full of sweet, sweet distress

Especially when your back’s against the wall

There’s just nothing like a crisis of confidence

Or knowledge blindness

To take me to the floor

Takes me to the floor

We’re all in two minds

Star in two lives

All in two minds

Star in two lives

Come back in seven years time

With mirrors intact

No self-respecting optimist

Would dispel the truth

Or invent the myth of mind

I’m a serious man

Kind to mankind

No self-respecting optimist am I

Come back in seven years time

With mirror intact

No self-respecting optimist

Would dispel the truth

Or invent the myth of mind

I’m a serious man kind to mankind

No self respecting optimist am I

All in two minds

Star in two lives

 Long way down

(from EP - Songs of the Dystopian)

Got no feeling don’t know the reason

For wasted minds, let’s blame it all online

I can see from the look on your face

Your cynical eyes have me working overtime

In a world turned upside down

Where black is white, and good and bad are the wrong way

round

Can you hear that silent sound?

There’s no difference between fooling and lying

Think we own ourselves

But in style we’re all just wandering

And wearily need to do some more wondering

Only time will tell how long we’ll keep on stalling

It’s a game take a chance on something

Don’t ask why

That’s why it has no meaning

Walk a while one day at a time

Slip someone a smile do some solitary screaming

In a world turned upside down

Where shock and awe, truth and law are the wrong way round

Can you see how (crass) chaos sounds?

There’s a fine line between lying and lied-to

Delusion is a selfish crime you lose your mind to

So take your place, back in line of the human race

Only time will tell how long we’ll keep on falling
